About

About this resource

An independent, evidence-first guide.
Human studies, linked to their source.
Reviewed by a doctor and a dietitian.
Astaxanthin.co.nz is an independent, evidence-first guide to a single molecule. It exists because most of what is written about astaxanthin online is either marketing or a reprint of marketing, and the actual human research deserves a fair, plain-English hearing on its own.
The aim is narrow and deliberate: gather the human studies in one place, link every claim to its record on PubMed, and describe what the evidence shows as honestly as possible, including where it is thin, mixed or preliminary. Where astaxanthin is genuinely well supported, such as heart markers and skin, the site says so. Where it is not, such as joints and cognition, it says that just as clearly. The research and benefit pages are written to inform, not to sell.

What makes this different

Three things set this resource apart from the average supplement page:
Human evidence only. The research library is built from human trials and systematic reviews, each linked to PubMed. The animal-only and test-tube studies that pad out most astaxanthin reading lists are left out, with one clearly-marked exception where human trials barely exist.
Honest about the limits. Every benefit is described with its evidence strength attached. A meta-analysis and a single small pilot are not presented as if they carry the same weight.
Reviewed by qualified people. The medical and nutritional content is checked by a practising doctor and a registered dietitian, named below.
The full standard, including how studies are chosen and how mistakes are corrected, is set out in the editorial policy.
